Digital Reef

Digital Reef is an animated 3D work that imagines a coral reef rebuilt as data. Coral, sponge and plankton forms in saturated orange, yellow and pink float in a white void. Thin lines and labels connect them, like a diagram that is still being drawn.

As living reefs bleach and disappear, more of them survive only as scans, models and measurements. The work holds that archive up to the light: beautiful and precise but strangely empty, a reef that can be catalogued but no longer lived in.
